Teaching Philosophy
I have been teaching voice and music to people of all ages for seventeen years...serving as a Kindermusik teacher, musical director, choir teacher, choreographer, and of course as a private voice teacher. I love the process of bringing together all aspects of music and performing to construct a more comprehensive approach to teaching. Throughout my music career, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to perform in a variety of musical genres, including opera/classical, musical theater, Jazz, liturgical, pop, as well as new music compositions.
I believe in the importance of a developing singer to adapt a healthy way of singing, so as to avoid developing bad habits that must be unlearned down the road. My instruction focuses on achieving proper vocal technique and vocal production through strengthening the breath support, accuracy of vowel production, as well as voice placement.
In addition, developing a strong stage presence is important with respect to communicating the text and meaning of the music to the audience. I encourage my students to explore a variety of musical styles, and believe it is beneficial to assign age-appropriate repertoire that follows the student throughout their developmental stages.
Most importantly, I strive to find ways to make vocal study and performing interesting and exciting to my students. It is this excitement that keeps the student engaged and committed to continue learning and improving upon their skills as a singer, musician and performer.
In my life I have found joy in not only learning and performing music, but also in teaching music to others. I believe that my many unique musical experiences and accomplishments, both onstage and off, allow me to pass along a more wide-ranging set of musical disciplines to my students. The importance of music in all of our lives cannot overstated. and I take great joy and pride in being able to assist in this invaluable addition to the daily lives and education of all my voice students!
